Abstract

Palm oil is one of the plantation commodities that has a strategic role in Indonesia's economic development. As an effort to maintain the quality of oil palm production, the seedling process needs attention. The availability of water and nutrients in the planting medium is one of the factors that can support the growth of oil palm seedlings. So that the watering and fertilization process has an important role in the seedling process. Watering and fertilization are still done manually, making it less efficient and effective in the seedling process. In this study, a system was designed that can automatically control watering and fertilization in the oil palm seedling process. The designed system consists of a soil pH sensor, a soil moisture sensor and a pump integrated with a microcontroller device. The system consists of two main parts, namely the soil parameter measurement system and the watering and fertilization control system. The initial test was carried out by validating the sensor reading data used. The next test was carried out to test the watering and fertilization control system on oil palm seedlings based on the pH and soil moisture parameters that have been determined. The test results show that the water pump will work to perform watering when the soil moisture value drops to 80% and the system will perform fertilization when the soil pH value read by the sensor is less than 5.
