Abstract

The sea area of Southeast Sulawesi Province is nearly three times larger than its land area, reaching 11 million hectares. This vast area holds significant potential, one of which is wave energy. Wave energy is an accumulation of the potential and kinetic energy of waves. This study aims to identify the the potential energy and wave power in the southern water of Southeast Sulawesi, specifically in the waters of South Buton. The research approach considers that wave energy is influenced by the density of seawater and wave height. Furthermore, wave power is the energy per unit of time transmitted in the direction of wave propagation. Wave data was obtained from reanalysis-ERA5 predictions in the deep sea, followed by wave propagation (deformation) analysis by extrapolating Airy wave theory to obtain the wave-forming variables propagating towards the shore. The result of the wave deformation analysis were then used to calculate the potential power and energy of ocean waves in the study area.
